Reader Response 2

Huck was influenced by tom sawyer because Tom never stopped something he started; he always finished what he started and never gave up. An example to support what I believe is (Ch. 12, pg. 51, par 3) when Huck says “Tom Sawyer wouldn’t back out now, and so I wont either.” When they found the 2 people on the abandon ship that tied a man up and was about to kill him.
Huck was influenced by Pap by his manners of being nice and not being rude to other people. An example from the book to support what I believe was when Huck was borrowing food from other people and being polite with the manners that were taught to him while him and Jim were on the river. (ch. 12, pg. 49, par. 3) when pap said that it wasn’t harmful to borrow things if you mean to pay them back what you borrowed from them.
Huck was influenced by Widow Douglas because she was mainly the one who took care of him and taught him pretty much right from wrong. Huck looked up to Widow a lot for situations or conflicts he was in because he knew Widow would always help him out of a bad situation he was in. An example to support what I believe is when Huck said “I had stopped cussing because the Widow doesn’t like it; but now I took it up again because pap hadn’t no objections.” (Ch. 6, pg. 18, par. 3).
Huck is influenced by Jim because Huck listens to what Jim has to say. Huck considers Jim to be his best friend and Jim feels the same way about Huck. Jim looks out for Huck like he’s his little brother or a family member. An example that supports what I believe would be in (Ch.12 pg. 49 par. 3) Huck said “Jim Reckoned that the Widow…to borrow the others.”

Moral Dilemmas in Huck Finn
An example of a moral dilemma would be when you know somebody is doing wrong but you don’t want to tell on them because you’re their friend. But at the same time, you have a guilty conscience about what is going on, how its wrong, and how your not doing the right (Legal in this case) thing. If you feel you want to tell on somebody or turn somebody in for not following the rules, but at the same time you want to help them out because they have been a good friend to you and you don’t want to be or feel like a backstabber or a coward to them.
In The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, many moral dilemmas occur. While Jim and Huck where on their journey to find the free lands, Huck left Jim on Jackson Island for a moment to go tell on him but ran into some slave hunters. They asked Huck if he had seen any runaway slaves around. Huck’s conscience was bothering him. He lied to protect Jim and told them no. He made up a story and the slave hunters believed him. Huck at first wanted to tell on Jim because he had a guilty conscience but when it came down to it, he didn’t want to betray Jim after Jim trusted him.
I agree with Huck for his decision. I think that Huck made the right decision in lying to the slave hunters to protect Jim. Huck traveled a long way with Jim to help him find free land. If Huck were to turn on Jim after Jim trusted him, then I would look at Huck as a coward or a backstabber my self. On top of that, Huck traveled a long way and went through a lot to help Jim. That’s why I agree with what Huck did to help Jim.
“Well, there’s 5 N run off to-night, up yonder…Is your man white or black?” (Ch. 16, last paragraph, bottom of the page). That is the quote that the slave hunters said to Huck when he left Jim on Jackson Island to go back and tell about how Jim was a runaway slave. Huck had to think of a big lie to tell the slave hunters. He told that lie so he could save Jim and he went out of his way to tell the lie.
That is an example of one of the many moral dilemmas in the book. Those are reasons why I agree with what Huck had did in the end.

Parental Relationship

“Well, ill learn how to meddle. And looky here-you drop that school you hear?... Say-lemme hear you read.”(Ch5, Pg.15, Par4). He wanted his son to be dumb just like the rest of their family. He didn’t want Huck Finn to be smart and know how to read and write.

I don’t think that’s a good thing to say to your kid. His dad is saying that he wants Huck Finn to be stupid. You should never want your kid to be stupid or dumb. You shouldn’t want your kid to make the same mistakes that you made. If you made those mistakes you should try and prevent your kid from making the same mistakes that you did and try your hardest to do the best for them. You should make a good example towards your kid and show them what right not wrong. This relates to my life because I don’t get along with my mom or dad. My mom seems like she tries to hold every thing back from me because she don’t want me to grow up. Me and my dad don’t get along because it seems like he thinks I’m doing everything wrong and he don’t trust me good enough at the same time he trusts my LITTLE sister more than her does me when I gave him no reason to not trust me.

Mark Twain thought that Huck Finns dad was wrong for what he said. He doesn’t think that it’s a good influence that he want his kid to be stupid and dumb like he was. He doesn’t know how his father could let him make the same mistakes that he did. Mark Twain feels this way because his dad was a very big influence on him and always wanted the best for Twain.

1. I think that some black people talk like white people and some white people that like black people. It all depends on where they come from and what their surrounding are.
